Getting That Beach Body

vballWith this great weather, we’ve all started thinking about prepping our bodies for the summer.  It’s something we all think about and we all start making physical goals.  Getting out to enjoy the trail runs in East Ogden is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and get a nice workout, but there is more that goes into a summer body than working out.  Of course you may have to wet your appetite for the summer adventures and have to stop by the Ogden Junction to get some practice rock climbing, or surfing at Flow Rider, but that’s just to warm up for the real sun activities.   Laying by the pool, boating up at Pine View, or laying out at the beach can’t be matched and we all want to be healthy.  The time to get fully prepared is now.

To fully get rid of your unwanted but relentless hair in places you don’t want, you need to do yourself a favor and stop by our medical spa where one of the many things we do is laser hair removal.  It makes you feel sexier, cleaner and all around better.  We just bought the newest, most effective hair removal lasers and with our experienced technicians we can help you reach your goals.

Eating Good Food In Hectic Times

We all have those stages of life that we go into survival mode; having a baby, work during the week, getting sick etc.  Eating out is fun, but there is nothing that compares to a homemade meal, especially when things are hectic around us.  Yeah the food tastes great, but there’s something about it that helps us ground ourselves, kind of touch home base for a bit.  I’ve found a great article that has some awesome recipes you can freeze and they’re very inexpensive.

This woman is preparing to have a baby, we all know that’s a time when we get into survival mode, so whether you’re having a baby, leaving town and leaving the kids home, or just preparing for the week, these recipes are great and they don’t take a lot of time.

I’ve been so excited to share my meal prep with you! Last month I went on a rampage of mass prepping before Taylor arrived. Along with deep cleaning and organizing every square inch of the house, I also did some meal prep. Warning: addicting! I’m slightly obsessed with this and am definitely going to make another set of meals before I head back to work in a few weeks.
I made a total of 14 bagged meals, each meal consists of four individual servings, which comes out to 56 individual servings total. One individual serving feeds one person, so 56 servings= 56 meals!  Each meal cost exactly $2.67 at that rate. Not too shabby! With the help of my friend, we were able to prepare all of the meals in two hours! I was pretty excited about the whole ordeal. Here’s how I did it…

 Step 1: Recipes
Below are the 10 recipes I used to prep. Although it’s 10 recipes, the BBQ Chicken and Veggies makes 2 meals and the Minestrone Soup makes 3 meals. They’re all slow cooker recipes, so when I’m ready to cook them, all I have to do is let them thaw for 24 hours in the refrigerator and then throw it in the crock pot and smile.
 Tortilla Chicken Stew
·      1 ½ lbs. chicken breasts
·      1 (12 oz) jar of salsa
·      1 lb frozen corn
·      1 lb mixed bell peppers
·      6 corn tortillas, ripped or shredded by hand
Cook in slow cooker for low for 8-10 hours.

Enjoying Life

Like mentioned several times, Mindful Women Spa’s focus is on the inner and outer health of our bodies. That’s not to be taken the wrong way, we also focus on living a well balanced life in all aspects. To reach your maximum levels of self-acceptance and happiness, you have to be well-balanced; socially, mentally, physically, spiritually. To each their own, there are several ways to satisfy each of those pillars. Today I’m going to touch up on the physical aspect.

One of the most common excuses that people have for eating unhealthy is lack of time. If you’re like anybody else, that excuse is actually quite valid; it takes a lot of time to always eat healthy. For me it’s not only the time, but the mentality I’m in. I’ve noticed when I’m running around like a chicken with my head cut off, I get into a little groove; I’m accomplishing a bunch of stuff and I feel like nothing can stop me. When I’m in this “groove”, I get an urge to quickly eat a burger and fries and get back on the road kickin’ butt.  The key is to not get discouraged when we eat something that’s not totally healthy.

Being  “well-balanced” doesn’t mean to completely cut off entire food groups.  Enjoying life is at the center of our attention, if you’re constantly craving something but deny your body what it’s craving, it may be hard to enjoy your day.  The average person who eats healthy eats about 5 or so smaller meals a day.  Some eat more and some eat only two, but we’ll use the average for examples’ sake.  That’s 35 meals a week, if you eat good for 30 of them, and do daily exercises you’ll be just fine.  There’s nothing more enjoyable than eating some pizza and coke, but it’s not enjoyable if you feel guilty afterwords.  I truly believe that to have a positive relationship with food, we need to enjoy it.  We need food for survival, it should be a positive thing but sometimes we get a little carried away and try to limit what we eat so much we develop a negative relationship with food itself.

From doing this myself, I notice that eating healthier is actually easier because I don’t binge at all.  Before, if I was craving a dessert and finally gave in, I would eat a lot of it very fast.  Now that I know I can have something I crave, I enjoy it.  I take the time to enjoy every bite and I don’t feel bad about it at all.  Life isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon and it’s about persistence.  I find a lot more happiness with living with achievable goals, not trying to be perfect but to constantly be doing good.

Though this article was focused on the physical aspect, reflect on all aspects of life and find what you need to be well-balanced.

It used to be that hair removal was strictly a female thing. Unless you were a bodybuilder, cyclist, swimmer, or male exotic dancer, chances are your body hair remained untouched.

Not so anymore. Experts report that more and more men are opting for the same grooming rights as women – including smooth body skin.

Gray hair creeps up on you — sometimes literally. I was in my 30s, sporting a full beard, when I first noticed a few gray hairs appearing. Then there were more than just a few. It wasn’t long before the lumberjack image was beginning to give way to something closer to Old Father Time. It wasn’t just the image that bothered me. It was the way I felt. Sure, gray hair is supposed to make men look distinguished. To give them gravitas. Look at Bill Clinton. Look at the baby-faced newsman Anderson Cooper,…

“Most men don’t necessarily want it all removed, but increasingly they do want it thinned out, on their back and chest, for example,” says dermatologist David Goldberg, MD, who regularly performs laser hair removal on men.

Hair waxing specialist Michelle Serniuk says men seeking hair removal now make up a good portion of her clientele.

“We get a lot of men who want waxing on their eyebrows – they want to take away that unibrow look and they want a shaping — plus they want the area around their ears or the back of the neck cleaned up as well,” says Serniuk, a waxing specialist at Beyond Day Spa at the Hackensack University Medical Center.

At the same time, various media reports suggest that many men are now opting for that longtime staple of female grooming – the bikini wax.

“We have definitely had men requesting this,” says Serniuk.

But unlike women, for whom hair removal is second nature by junior high school, men often find themselves at a loss for how to deal with excess body hair.

For those men, here’s the lowdown on the most common hair removal options available today.

Hair Removal Option No. 1: Laser Hair Removal Treatments

What It Does : Using laser light energy to penetrate the hair shaft, it actually kills the hair root. This doesn’t kill the follicle (the place where hair growth starts). So technically, another hair can grow in its place, but it’s difficult. That means results of laser hair removal last a fairly long time.

How Long It Takes : Roughly 30 minutes per treatment, up to eight treatments needed.

Best For : Removing or reducing hair on back, chest, stomach, shoulders, and genital area. Works best on light skin with dark hair; not suitable for blond or white hair. Black skin responds well to only one type of laser, the Nd: YAG.

Cost : $400-500 per treatment.

Lasting Result : After all laser hair removal treatments are completed, results could be almost permanent, with touch-up treatments annually or biannually to maintain results.

Expert Comments : “Most men utilize laser hair removal for the back, upper arms, and chest and most want it thinned out, not removed — something which lasers can easily accomplish,” says Goldberg. In fact, other than electrolysis, laser hair removal is the only hair removal treatment that allows for thinning, rather than complete removal. While the average man needs five to seven sessions, as men age, more hair grows, especially on their backs, says Goldberg. As such, touch-up laser hair removal treatments are usually needed on average once a year.

Skin Rejuvination

Men and women are both looking for ways to make up for the time they spent in the sun as youth.  Back in the day people didn’t use… or better yet, have sunscreen.  Though they had a nicely sun kissed body, a lot are paying for it now as they start aging.  There are several different ways to reduce these side effects, some are more effective than others.  At Mindful Women Spa, we offer an IPL treatment; it can be performed on different parts of the body and we’ve noticed it’s one of the best things to get you the results you want.  Here I’ve found a great article by Lumenis that simply lists some basic information about IPL’s.

If you haven’t seen our facility in South Ogden, come by and we can answer more of your questions!

IPL Treatment Using Photorejuvenation

As the population ages, ever-increasing numbers of people are interested in improving their appearance. IPL treatments can be used to help restore the skin’s youthful appearance.

IPL treatment improves the appearance of photoaged skin, removes age spots (sun-induced freckles), most benign brown pigments, and redness caused by broken capillaries through a process called photorejuvenation for face and body. The process is ideal for patients with active lifestyles because the procedure requires no downtime and has a low risk of side effects.

The gentle, non-ablative treatments use broad spectrum light to treat the face, chest, neck and hands—virtually anywhere that sun damage shows.

Patient Satisfaction

Several appealing qualities of IPL Treatment using Photorejuvenation which result in very high levels of patient satisfaction.

  • IPL treatments are quick, gentle and non-invasive. There is no interruption of routine activities.
  • By helping to remove the age spots (sun-induced freckles) and broken capillaries, the result is overall more even, luminous, younger looking skin.
  • Patients can see dramatic results within a very short time.

A broad spectrum of light is transmitted through a small, smooth, transparent handpiece which is gently placed over the skin. Cut-off filters in the handpiece change the wavelength range allowing it to be optimized for different applications and skin types. The light penetrates the tissue and is absorbed by either the blood when treating vascular lesions or the melanin when treating pigmented lesions damaging them. The body’s natural processes then remove the injured tissue giving the skin a more even and youthful appearance.

IPL Skin Treatments using Photorejuvenation often consist of full-face treatment or treatment of isolated body areas like the hands or chest. The treatment regimen typically consists of:

  • Four to six treatments administered at three week intervals
  • Broad spectrum light in the visible and near infrared range, from 515 nm up to about 1200 nm

As a sub-epidermal procedure, IPL Skin Treatments using Photorejuvenation produce few side effects and requires little to no alteration in the patient’s normal routine.

For Your Practice

As baby boomers begin to age, aesthetic procedures that can help improve appearance are in higher demand than ever before. IPL Skin Treatments using the photorejuvenation process are a perfect solution because they accommodate today’s active lifestyles. Many physicians are finding that adding this procedure to their practice helps build patient traffic, in addition to serving as a “gateway” to additional aesthetic procedures.
