Best Sales Of The Year

If I were more on  the ball, I would do all my Christmas shopping a year in advance!  The sales that are available after Christmas are phenomenal and it makes me want to buy Christmas all over again; if only I saved some of my budget.   This past weekend, we went up for a nice night in Park City, enjoyed some dinner on Main Street and window shopped for a bit.  Main Street also has some amazing shopping, the stores are so unique and well put together.  It’s a great place to go shopping but if you’re looking for a bargain, it’s not your best bet.  After that, we made our way down to the Tanger Outlets; Park City used to be a silver mine but in these outlets we struck gold!

High brand items were on amazing sales, below I’ve included a site with some discounts that expire in just a couple of days.  Nike has some amazing golf pants you can get for your husband to put to use while you get a massage to start the year off right.  Columbia, Banana Republic, Chico, Kays Jewler… and the list goes on.

Here at Mindful Women Spa, we have customers from Park City, SLC and Ogden.  We hope this article helps you find some gems that you’ve been looking for.  It’s a fun atmosphere, so make a night out of it and enjoy!

These discounts are below, or click here for original site.

12 Days of Christmas

12_daysWe’re coming up on the end of the Christmas countdown.  When I was a kid, I couldn’t wait to count down another day because that meant I could eat another delicious chocolate from my December calender.  For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, you’re never too old to make up for missed childhood memories.  I haven’t had one for quite some time, I’m curious to see how great the chocolate actually is because when I was a kid I thought it was the best tasting chocolate I had ever had.

For those of you who are following our annual tradition of 12 Days of Christmas, you know that there has been some great deals available this month.  Today is Christmas Eve, you’d be shocked with the discounts we have disclosed thus far.  Be sure to call us to ensure it’s still available and to mark your spot.  We’re giving 50% off ALL holiday retail!  You may have gotten all your Christmas shopping done, but it’s never too late for a great deal.

Mindful Women Spa wishes you a Merry Christmas!  We hope you’re able to find some time to reflect on the important things in life.

Make Best Holiday Memories

This time of year, there is a lot going on and if you’re anything like the average person, it results in an enormous amount of stress.  Although we want the Christmas season to be one filled with peace and focus, it often leans to the other side of the spectrum.  This article is absolutely essential to read, it gives some simple reminders and ways to capture the holiday spirit and make this holiday season the best possible.  There are things that are out of our control, but we can always be in control of ourselves and our feelings.  Capture the good memories this holiday season and take what you’ve learned into the New Year, making 2014 the best in your book.

Dana George-Berberich

Ah, the holidays. A time for family, friends and lots of food. The poet Longfellow described the holiest of all holidays as the “secret anniversaries of the heart.” That’s because the memories we create during that time leave a vivid impression, tattooing sweet memories in our minds. This is the time of year to mend fences, create goodwill, and find solace in simply being.

Still, there’s no denying that the holiday season can sometimes leave us feeling less-than-satisfied with our experience. It seems that expectations are the enemy of enjoyment, and focusing on how we perform over the holidays can suck the soul right out of them.

We have gathered a few tips for those of us who are bound and determined to rediscover the magic this year.

Be Clear

Remember being asked to journal in English or psychology class? As goofy as it may have felt at that moment, creating a written record of your thoughts is a great tool for clarifying how you feel. This year, just for kicks, write down your image of the perfect holiday season. It may look nothing like those you’ve experienced in the past, or it may borrow heavily from your favorite parts.

Part of losing our joy during the holidays is due to the fact that we “go along for the ride.” We don’t want to make waves, so we do what everyone else wants us to do. We become like a lifeboat in stormy ocean, being pulled this way and that. We may survive, but not without getting a little seasick.

What do you want? Is relaxation what you crave, or do you want to spend the season on some grand adventure? Perhaps your ideal lies somewhere in the middle – time for fun followed by time for renewal.

Be Bold

Now that you’ve decided what you want, it’s time to let the people you love know. Even if the practice has always been to do it a particular way, this is your year of moving toward a more meaningful holiday experience. That can’t happen unless you’re brave enough to share your mental image of what that season looks like.

Be Realistic

Your brother-in-law is probably still going to tell stale jokes, your niece may be a brat on roller skates, and the family vegetarian may lose his ever-lovin’ mind at the sight of a roasted turkey. This is your holiday. Your happiness is not dependent upon the behavior of anyone else. Just remember that any time there is more than one person in a room, someone may be acting the fool.

Stop on a regular basis to remind yourself of what it is you’re celebrating. You have determined what this holiday season means to you and what you hope to gain from it. No one has the power to take that away from you.

Be Mindful

Living in the moment is a powerful thing. It means that you’re not comparing this year to past holidays and you’re not concerned about what next year is going to look like. In fact, being mindful of this precise moment will allow you to fully experience the season in a way that involves body and soul. Take the time to imprint this rarified moment on your heart, to appreciate the uniqueness of your particular situation.

When we strip away the commercialism and our own anxieties, we can fully appreciate the holiday season for what it is – an opportunity to celebrate that which means most to us.

What Can Facials Do For You?

woman-getting-facial-at-spaSometimes I feel like I just can’t get my skin under control!  After talking to other people with my same problem, their solutions seem to work for everyone but me.  Then there’s my dermatologist, that doesn’t seem to help either.  There are so many different skin types out there with there own unique zest to them. They all have qualities and flaws…sadly seem to notice the flaws.

This article points out some different problems your skin may have;  eczema, acne, splotches, dry patches; whatever it may be there is a solution. The frustrating thing is that not all solutions are the same with different people, even though the symptoms are the same.

What Type of Facial Will Help Your Skin Problem?
By Meagan Morris | Yahoo! Contributor Network

Can a facial fix your skin problem? Definitely.
We typically view facials as a once-in-a-blue moon treat for our skin. It’s time to stop thinking like that, says esthetician Isabelle Daudre to Yahoo! Shine. Regular facials should be part of your weekly skincare routine to fix skin problems — and to keep the problems from coming back.
“In general, facial treatments strengthen the skin, so it can fight the millions of free radicals that attack it during the day, weakening and aging it,” Daudre says.
Hormones, poor nutrition, and the stresses of daily life are among the factors that can leave your skin unbalanced and defenseless, she says.
“A good facial works to rebalance the skin, leaving it stronger, healthier, and better able to do its ‘job’,” Daudre adds.
Of course, some common skin issues need more corrective treatments to get there — and facials can provide that correction. But, what is the right facial for you? Let’s break down common skin problems and the facials that can help fix the issue.
Hyperpigmentation, an imbalance of color pigment in the skin, is especially noticeable during the summer. Specialized facials using chemicals are the best way to even out the skin tone.
“A corrective chemical peel using L-Arbutin, Kojic acid, Azelaic acid, or retinols will speed up the skin’s cell turnover and help to lighten any dark patches, resulting in a more even skin tone,” Daudre says. “Follow your peel with regular facials and make sure to re-apply your SPF every 2 to 3 hours to keep the hyperpigmentation from returning.”
Adult acne is one of the most infuriating skin conditions, but a series of deep-cleaning facials can help balance your skin.
“Regular facials addressing these issues should be performed every three weeks for the first three months,” Daudre recommends. “They will rebalance oil production, remove dead cell buildup, and kill bacteria with the use of topical oxygen, ozone, and other antibacterial ingredients.”
A good esthetician will also extract existing pimples. “It’s important to reduce the inflammation in the pores that could trigger future breakouts,” she adds.
People suffering from Rosacea tend to avoid facials, afraid their skin will become more irritated with any stimulation. However, Daudre says facials are actually one of the better, natural treatments for the condition.
“Specialized facials, ones formulated specifically for rosacea, bring support and nutrition to stressed skin, decreasing vulnerability and reactionary inflammation,” she explains. “The ingredients should be antibacterial and capillary-strengthening to help fortify the skin, so it doesn’t become red and overheated.”
Using cooling oxygen and ice globes also help to calm the skin down and constrict capillaries.
With Eczema, a gentle exfoliating and anti-inflammatory treatment is necessary to increase cell turnover and control the skin thickening that occurs with this condition, Daudre says.
“Like Rosacea treatments, these facials focus more on healing and strengthening the skin using soothing, non-irritating products,” she says. “Regular treatments allow for better barrier function so your skin can protect itself from future outbreaks.”
You’re a little young to be worrying about wrinkles, but anti-aging facials can help keep those fine lines at bay for a few more years.
“Skin that is wrinkled or has lost elasticity can benefit from a stimulating facial that increases blood flow and nutrient absorption,” Daudre says.
She recommends a Microcurrent facial to tone facial muscles, energize cells and detoxify the skin.
“It’s like a workout for the skin, and just like working out, needs to be done regularly for best results,” Daudre says.

Finding The “Why”

meditateThere are always those goals that we fall short of, I’m sure you know what I’m talking about; losing just a few more lbs, getting a six pack, eating healthy…sound familiar?    I write this in hope to give a new perspective to aid in achieving your goals.   I’ll focus on the body but the following helps with any type of goals.  Your body requires certain things to function correctly, it’s quite impressive how long it can keep running on low fuel, but sooner or later your body will require some TLC.  Like all things, it’s much easier to keep it well-maintained instead of running with little energy as it leads up to a big crash.

For your body’s survival, it will make you rest sooner or later, but eventually it does have to rest.  The more time and attention you invest in your body, the more your body will invest in you.  In our society, it’s common for people to connect the idea of dieting and exercising to “looking good”.  Yes, if you exercise and diet consistently you will probably look good but if you’re like most people, dieting and working out is very difficult to stick with.  Most can’t stick with their diets and workout programs because they get worn out…the reward isn’t worth the sacrifice.

Though I’m talking about personal health, this fundamental principle to achieving goals has no restrictions to the achievements to which we aspire.  We all want to look good and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, but more times than not the average person fails to do so.  When it gets hard, the reason we don’t go on is because we relate more pain with eating healthy and exercising than we do with looking good.  “Looking good” is too shallow of a sacrifice and a lot of us aren’t willing to pay that kind of price to just look good.   Now, if you take the time to jot some thoughts down and dig a little deeper as to why you want to look good, I think you’ll realize that there are a lot of other reasons we’d want to make changes.  The reason so many people want to look good, is because they think it will give them a sense of self-acceptance, they’ll feel good, look good and feel as if they’re on top of the world!    But… I don’t believe all those feelings come from looking good, they’re a result of eating healthy, exercising, meditating and doing other things to care for your body.  Those amazing feelings come from our bodies when we take care of them.   The real reason we should exercise and eat healthy is to feel and be healthy.  If we focus on our body’s needs and not necessarily our wants, all of the sudden we stop trying to finish a dreadful diet but we start eating healthier, enjoying more activities and getting better sleep.  It gives you a lot deeper motivation after relating it to the quality of life you want to have with your family, and guess what…looking good happens to be a bi-product.

If you find yourself falling short of any goals you’ve been trying to achieve, take some time to analyse the situation.  Why do you want that goal?  What will happen in your life if you achieve it?  What will happen if you don’t achieve it?  The most important is knowing “why” you want to achieve the goal.  Some goals you may realize it’s not worth the sacrifice you’d have to make to achieve, and that’s okay, then you can check it off so it won’t keep coming back to remind you of failing to achieve a goal.  If you really understand “why”, and what the consequences of not achieving a goal, you’ll find much more accomplishment.

Reduce Body Aches This Winter

cropped-960039_567734796600323_2107542779_n1.jpgThis winter hit awfully hard this last week!  I don’t know about you but I just can’t seem to get warm unless I muster up the guts to get a good workout in.  Tis’ the season of holiday cheer… and also, tired immune systems, aching joints and tight muscles.  It is the best time of the year to reflect on all that has happened these last 12 months, enjoy our family traditions, make snow men, drink hot cocoa and snuggle up with our families by the crackling fire.

Now more than ever your body needs some extra attention.  In addition to all your holiday food, be sure to eat some fruits and veggies to give it the fuel it needs.  Right now we’re fighting off all types of bacteria and viruses that accumulate at this time of year.  Also, stay active so your muscles and joints get ample amounts of activity.  If you notice your muscles just aren’t loosening up, and your body aches, come in for a massage.  It does wonders!

Massaging is more than just going to a spa and being pampered.  It plays a crucial role in your body rejuvenation process.  After we loosen up all your tight, cold muscles, you will be in absolute awe in the difference it makes in your day to day life.  You’ll have new levels of energy to make it through the holiday season!

Moves That Get Your Body In Sync

We all have different physical aspirations, some want to build strength, trim down, run longer, run faster… and the list goes on. The point is, to achieve such goals, specific types of training are necessary; a ballet dancer isn’t going to do the same exercises as a body builder. Though this is true, there are types of exercises that benefit everyone! This article gives 12 efficient Pilates exercises that can make all the difference in not only how we look, but most importantly how we feel. The way you view your own body is crucial, caring for it and taking time to treat it is essential.  Whether that be a massage, facial, healthy eating, exercising, it all plays a role in how we feel which directly reflects how we see ourselves.   These 12 moves are perfect if you don’t have a lot of time and want to do something to improve how you feel.

by guest blogger Brooke Siler, celebrity Pilates instructor, owner of re:AB Pilates Studio and author of the recently launched The Women’s Health Big Book of Pilates

What does being fit look and feel like to your innermost informant? Is it limited to shape, tone, and size, or is it based on quality of movement? Is it a product of jogging, spinning, yoga, and weight lifting, or does everyday living play a role?

So much of what we think about fitness has been formed by images alone. We look at bodies and create an idea of it in our heads that doesn’t usually scratch the surface. But being fit is about distinctly more than what we look like. Being fit is about adaptability, balance, and feeling great in your body. Sound fitness methods should teach and create movement awareness that you take with you long after the workout ends.

Do your workouts focus on balancing out imbalances in your body? Do they take into consideration the inner workings of your body’s functioning? Do they teach you how to move more efficiently and create more awareness of how you move throughout your day? Are you getting smarter and making more intelligent movement choices for yourself? This is where Pilates comes in.

Joe Pilates envisioned fitness as sound movement and internal health. He created his method to strengthen his own body inside and out using a system that fit fitness into daily life organically. With it, your bed becomes an apparatus, your chair is flipped to become a resistance machine, your doorways house tower units with spring bars. This isn’t to say that you need the Pilates equipment to be fit, but these apparatuses expedite the acquisition of the strength and balance that are requisite to enjoying a normal, healthy life.

There’s a line that permeates healthy fitness circles that states: “It is not the strong that survive, but the adaptable,” and while born from woefully incorrect paraphrasing, it’s valid nonetheless. An adaptable body and mind are well suited to their surroundings and daily needs.

So what does training for adaptability actually look like? The first answer would be that it completely depends on what you are training to be fit for: A marathoner or furniture mover will have different training needs from an office worker. But there are some things we can agree upon across the board: Sitting, standing, walking, breathing, and digesting are a part of everyone’s daily repertoire. Each of these acts requires flexibility and strength to be performed well.

So what if we began to think of fitness as adapting our bodies to be able to best perform the actions of everyday life with the greatest efficiency and least risk of injury? Would this change the way you look at your current fitness regime? The Pilates system was designed with balancing strength and flexibility in mind. By creating balanced muscles and a flexible spine, Joe Pilates sought to reverse the age clock and eliminate pain and injury from your physical vocabulary. He was most interested in the movements of the spine, and Pilates movements in general are meant to parallel the natural movements of life: rolling up and out of bed, rolling down to pick up a pen, twisting to reach behind you, lengthening up to reach the item on the top shelf, to name a few.

Since our spines naturally move in only so many ways, what if you thought of your workouts as being “directional” as well as physical? Your spine moves through four basic directions and then combinations thereof. Those directions are flexion, extension, side flexion, and rotation. Plus, every Pilates move begins with “vertical extension” or a lengthening of the spine to create support and to honor the internal workings of your body. Chronic neck aches and back pains begin when not all the directions are being championed by your fitness routines.

The following are 12 no-equipment-needed Pilates moves that, when put together in almost any order you like, will serve to move your spine in all directions daily. If there are a couple of directions you find you move in more than the others (usually the ones that are the most challenging for you), simply repeat them–or choose ones you prefer from the more than 263 Pilates moves in The Women’s Health Big Book of Pilates. Either way, when suiting up for your next fitness endeavor think about your divine spine and the directions that need nurturing.
